Prices changes during the day, for the most part, circumscribed. with traders withholding commitments, awaiting definite news of some constructive settlement of present international differences, and news as to the manner in which the export subsidy is made effec- "" tive. Export demand. has improved. Widespread rainfall is reported in Eastern belt. July consumption was 521,405 bales. The world consumption of American cotton in 1938-39 season which ended on July 31, was 12,130,000 bales and the carry-over in the United States on that date was 14,405,000 bales, of which 11,000,000 bales are held under Government loani.

Prices declined on lack of interest due to uncertainty over forth- coming quota regulations as to the Barter scheme In the IR.R.C. meeting which is believed to be held in September 7, July consump–. tion was 43.880 tons, compared with 47,240 tons a month ago, imports were 36,739 tons, stocks were 174,240 tons, with stocks afloat, 52,990 tons. July consumption figures were lower

than expected. Fait European demand is reported at the decline.

CHICAGO WHEAT

The market displayed early strength under the influence of firm foreign markets, but afterwards lagged. closing fractionally lower. The movement of new crop to the loan continues to act as a sup- port otherwise the market is featureless, while reports from Canada state that crop indications there are less than had been expected.
