House property valued at £10- 000,000,000, and furniture and effects worth another £2,000,000.- 000, would be liable to attack and damage in Britain, if war came. and much of the property is situated in vulnerable areas,

This was revealed in both the Lords and the Commons on July 18 when members were anxious to know the Government's plans to relleve the anxiety of owners of large properties and of the many hundreds of thousands of smaller homes in the country.

An inquiry will be held by five Insurance experts nominated by the Treasury to see if a mutual insurance scheme among property owners themselves cannot provide some safeguards in the meantime.

CONSOLIDATION LOAN COUPONS DISCOUNT. CHUNGKING, July 31 (Central) -Beginning ́fron to-day, the Central Bank of China, the Bank of China, and the Bank of Com- munications in Shanghai wül ac- cept coupons of the Consolidation. Silver prices rose over the week-quoted. end to the extent of 1/16 for Ready and 1/8 for Forward, the quotations being 16.3/4 and 163/8 respectively. Sliver advices re- ported India as having sold and there were some bear covering. The market was steady. The New York market was unquoted.

The London/New rate was quoted at 498.12.

The market opened 3/18 of "a cent higher, for all deliveries as compared with Friday's closing quotations.

Substantial buying orders received by overnight cables London and New York were responsible for the steadiness displayed in Singapore early in the morning. There were also fair enquiries, for trade and speculative accounts in evidence.

After fair volume of business having been transacted on basis of quoted rates the market becafie quiet and towards the close of the session prices slightly declined by 1/16 to 1/8 cent for all deliveries.

Closing tone was dull.

Apprehensions of the 5 per cent. extra-release for "July-Septem- ber having DE adverse influence on the probable trend of the, market in the immediate future, seem to have been largely offset by further reports of steadily increasing absorption as is evidenced by continually declining stocks both in London and New York, thus stimulating sentiment. In view of this fact it is believed that Rab- ber is again within buying range.
