IRON ORE DEPOSITS

LONDON, July 15 (By Air.: Mail) |-Dr. W. "G. Woolnough, geolo-

gical adviser to the Commonwealth. Government, is visiting Canberra to confer with Federal Ministers on the prospects of large-scale ex- ploitation of the tron ore deposits in Yampi Sound. Western

Australla.

He has just returned from a 10- day survey of the deposits on |Koolan Kland. On his report will largely depend the Federal Gov- ernment's future polley regarding the deposits.

Describing life in Yampi Mound, Dr. Woolnough said Koolan Island was very hilly. Water was carried by barge froko the mainland.

The market opened with prices unchanged for all deliveries as

compared with Monday's closing quotations.

In response to advices received from London and New York quiet conditions were prevalent throughout the session

The market is awaiting the outcome of the quota-meeting which remains the dominating influence.

Later in the day prices régistered a slight advance of 1/16 cent for all deliveries due to some buying on a narrow market.

Closing tone was quiet.

LATE CABLE NEWS

The International Rubber Regulation Committee fixed the per- $10 missible export quota at-60 per cent. for the third and fourth quar-

ter of this year which, it la belleved, might temporarily have $4.80 slightly bearish influence upon the market.

The market, was strong on trade and commission house buying.. The results of the subsidy have still to be felt. Heavy exports are believed to be likely.

NEW YORK - RUBBER

A 60-per cent quota has, been fixed for the second half year. Some sources consider this favourable to the market: Others blame this increase in the third quarter for to-day's drop in prices.

CHICAGO WHEAT

New buying was mainly responsible for the upward movement of wheat, together with cables reporting the steadiness of the Liver- pool and Winnipeg markets. Despite today's advance, some sources are apprehensive regarding the immediate future trend of the mhar- ket. Reports continue to play up the good crop prospects in Canada,
