MILK TRADE'S BEST YEAR
Prices Said To Be
High Enough After the chairman, Mr. Thomas Baxter, had recorded the best year
of progress since the Milk Market- Ing scheme was started, a min- ority of producers attending the annual meeting at Central Hall, Westminster, voted for a reduction in the salaries of the Board; This was defeated by 141 to 87.
Mr. Baxter said 1,080,000,000 gal- lons of milk were sold in the year. an "Increase of nearly 69,000,000 gallons-6.8 per cent, over 1937-8.. The whole of this had found a market.
In four years production had gone up by 100,000,000 gallons, and nearly all the increase has been consumed in the liquid market, "the only remunerative market for producers."

Continuing, Mr. Baxter sald that an order for a more definite and rigid scheme of regulation of im- ported processed milks would be operative on June 13.
