The market opened 1/8 of a cent higher for all deliveries as com- pared with Wednesday's closing quatations.

Steady conditions prevailed during the morning session due to fair enquiries for immediate and forward deliveries by consumers and dealers, whilst speculators were also displaying some buying in- terest in futures.

It would appear that activity was stimulated by a decidedly bet- ter tone on the Stock-markets in London and New York, as well as by reports of Improving business-prospects, particularly in USA, coupled with expectations of further relaxation of the political ten- sion.

•

During the afternoon, however, the market, turned quiet and in- active, closing with a dull undertone.

Speculators sold but there was very poor support. The mar ket was steady but quiet.. Ameri- can Suver was quoted at 39 3/4 for Spot.

The London/New York cross-rate was quoted at 463.12. New York/ London was quoted at 488.1/8.

A steady tone was in evidence, with new specu lative buying and "bear covering in progress, but the conditions were generally narrow. The volume, was also small. Later, prices receded slightly, with some early gains partially pared off
