The market opened 1/8 of a cent higher for all deliveries as com- pared with Friday's closing rates,
The market displayed a steady undertone with a good demand for "actuals" by consuming centres. There were also fair' enquiries for futures by dealers and speculators in evidence. **
The better sentiment was attributed to more reassuring political news from Europe as well as to a continuance of encouraging busi- ness prospects in USA., although Motor-car production showed a sightly more than anticipated decline for the week ending June 30, which however, was ignored by the market.
Closing tone was quietly steady.

The market again displayed an easy appearance" at "to-day's opening, with a lower adjustment of prices. However, a better tone. was evinced later, and the market became quiet bat Arm. Prices ad- vanced on trade and speculative buying. "Bear": covering also im- parted some impetus to the advance. Some strength in "spots" was in evidence. However, uncertainty continued to prevail over the sub- sidy question. On the whole, price movements were confined to a narrow range.
