The market opened 1/8 of a cent higher for "spot" Rubber, but with prices unchanged for forward deliveries as corapared with Batur- day's closing quotations.

Quiet, but steady conditions prevailed throughout the day despite the fact that the Rubber Erchanges in London and New York were closed on Saturday, last.

Fair buying orders for immediate delivery were in evidence, but it was difficult to satisfy this demand due to the tightness of the '"spot" situation. In view of this fact consumers tumed, their atten- tion to buying" for forward deliveries, which later in the session, resulted in a slight price-advance of 1/8 cent for distant options.

There was also a fair trade-demand noticeable for more distant positions, but speculators preferred to await further developments In "Soj | London and New York before entering into fresh commitments to

Rabber brokers in New York as well as in Singapore believe that. whilst the statistical position undoubtedly warrants higher prices, a sustained price-advance is primarily dependent upon political de- velopments. Market steady but idle. Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed a decrease of 1.158 tons for the week ending June 24, 1939.

NEW YORK COTTON

Prices were marked down at the opening to-day. This early decline was attributed to foreign selling. Läter, the market ruled somewhat irregularly and prices moved both ways, but finally they took an upward course on good speculative buying and covering by short interests. Eventually, the market closed on the upside with prices very near to the day's best levels.

NEW YORK RUBBER

To-day's market derived some sustenance from fair trade and factory buying. Prices advanced considerably from the day's low levels.

The market presented an irregular appearance. Some selling was influenced by the weakness of the foreign, markets,
