Early in the session the market ruled firm. Substantial orders for immediate and forward deliveries for trade and speculative accounts Induced sellers to adopt a reserved attitude. Consequently it was dif- -foult to arrange business
The better sentiment was caused by avernight cable-reports on the conclusion of an Anglo-American agreement to barter 600,000 bales of American Cotton for 80.000 tons of British Grude-Rubber. It "would quantity that the required. also reported probably be produced under a special quota release by the LR.R Committee, such Rubber to be stored as a war reserva for seven years' and not to be sold to the trade, if no war would arise during this period. In this event it is believed in trade-circles that the barter will ultimately prove to be a price-hardening factor.
The more optimistic outlook was also aided by reports of a fur- ther fair increase in American Motorcar-production for the week end--- ing June 23rd.
Towards the close of the Session, however, the higher price-level tended to attract speculative liquidation, resulting in a slight set- Back of 1/8 cent for all deliveries.
Closing tone was quietly steady.

However, a firming tendency was evinced towards the close, and prices recovered and stood at their best levels of the day. On the whole, fluctuations were confined to a narrow range. The subsidy question was a bolstering factor.
