THE TOWN PLANNING BILL, officially described as a "Bill for the promotion of the health, safety, convenience and general welfare of the community by making provision for the systematic preparation and approval of plans for the future lay-out of existing and potential urban areas as well as for the types of building suitable for erection therein," was passed with one minor amendment following second and third readings at yesterday's meeting of the Legislative Council.

Seven new Bills were given first reading on the motion of the Attorney-General:-A Bill to amend the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, a Bill to amend the Telecommunication Ordinance, 1936, a Bill to continue and amend the Sterling Salaries Conver- sion Ordinance 1937, a Bill to amend the Naval Vo- lunteer Ordinance, 1933, and provide for Naval De- fence, a Bill to amend the Rating Ordinance, 1901, a Bill to amend the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, 1873, a Bill to amend the Pensions Ordinance, 1932.
