To-day's opening was quiet with hardly any changes in prices. Later, the market became active and strong on trade" buying, and with "bear covering in progress, prices advanced' considerably. The action on the Congressional Committee was construed, favourably, and this provided a filly to the market. The strength in "dis- tants" was very well maintained up to the close.
