ORDER OF BUSINESS: TO - DAY'S MEETING

At to-day's meeting of the Legis- Iztive Council, the Finsacial Secretary will ask for approval of an expenditure of $279,983.47 on account of the Central Market, which sum is to be advanced from the surplus balances of the Colony, and for a sum of $1,312,300 for Joan works for water schemes.

The following is the order of business for the meeting:

CHINA BUYING FROM P.I.

Increased Exports To Kwangtung

SHAOKWAN, June 21 (Int'l)- Kwangtung Province, China, is increasing its purchases from the Philippine Islands steadily. · Dur- ing the past year, the Philippines exported to that province 325,556 pesos worth of local products as compared with 101,224 pesos in 1337, or an increase of 220 per cent.

The export trade, however, has been declining with few minor Auctuations at irregular intervals. In 1934, the value of Philippine exports totaled 114,973 pesos, but in the following year, it dropped to only 14,718 pesos. Trade be- tween the Islands and that Chi- nese province recovered a little in 1936 and in 1937 i; jumped to 101,- 224 pesos.

Balance of Trade

The balance or trade has been consistently in favour of Kwang- tung. While the unfavoumble. merchandise balance of trade, however. amounted to 1.914.627. in 1929, the amount has gradually diminished until it totaled only 85,323 pesos in 1938. The decrease Ls largely attributed to the declin
