“QUITE IMPOSSIBLE"

MR. A. KORDA AND GOLDWYN DEAL

"Quite impossible" was Alex- ander Korda's comment on the Hellywood report that Samuel Goldwyn has acquired the holdings of Mary Pick- ford, Douglas Fairbanks and Charles Chaplin, valued-at £400,000 each, in the United Artists Corporation. The constitution

of the COF- poration. Mr. Korda pointed out, requires the consent of all the producer-members before shares can be transferred.

Mr. Korda, as one of the part ners, would have to be consulted: and even then, so complicated.

the corporation's are

articles, many weeks would elapse before such a desi could be completed.

M. Korda added that so far as he knew Mis, Piskford, Mr. Fais, banks and Mr. Chaplin, though disposed to sell some two years ago, had no desire to do so now.

Mr. Korda suggested. that Mr. Goldwyn might have acquired the United Artists Studios and that this might have given rise to the other report.

MICKEY ROONEY HOLLYWOOD'S

AS DIRECTOR

Mickey Rooney will become the youngest director mo- tion pictures when production starts on "Babes in Arms," in which he appears with Judy Garland.

Mickey, whose secret ambition is to direct, will be granted the privilege by Busby Berkeley, who notified the young star that he had been named co-director of the minstrel show sequences lot the picture in which all the per-

Menu- Poisoned Glass

Thirteen extras and stunt men received first aid treat- ment for stomach aches during the filming of a saloon.brawl sequence for "Dodge. City" at Warner Bros.

As part of the action several stunt men were hurled through the windows of the saloon. Ordinarily breakaway" easily-shattered - windows for such brawls are made of rock candy. "But Warner Bros. technicians had developed s new type of "breakaway" glass. Resin was its principal ingre-

dient.

Soon after the first scene had been photographed by Director Mike Curtiz several of the stunt men and extras com- plained of stomach aches. Questioning at the studio ho pital disclosed the cause... of their ailment.

Greatest Authority To-day he's probably the great est of all authorities on the habits of s gorilla and if you doubt the superlative, watch his anties in the Twentieth Century picture "The Gorilla."

After an unusually long scene he's in В state bordering on collapse and must rest for half an hour before struggling back into his costume. Of hand, we can't think of another actor who "gives" more for his art, and "gives" so anonymously.
