MEDICAL RELIEF WORK IN FACE OF DIFFICULTIES
First Curative Unit Report For 1937-38
The following extracts from the voluminous "report of the first Curative Unit of the Red Cross Society (December 1937-December 1938) reveals the extraordinary amount of work of succour to the thousands of unfortunates in the war-torn interior of China done by these Units in spite of the almost insurmountable difficulties that dog medical re
lef workers practically every foot of the way,
1
After the fall of Nanking, more than 100 Red Cross doctors. nurses and dressers retreated to Hankow, waiting for service. The Red Cross Society organised a Red Cross Medical Relief Com- mission and decided to give up the original idea of establishing a big base hospital, plans for which had already been worked out in Nanking. Instead of this plan, it decided to organize small mobile units to work on different fronts.
