The market opened 1/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as compared with Tuesday's closing rates.

Overnight cable-reports on dull and quiet conditions prevailing in London and New York were responsible for the inactivity dis- played in Singapore early in the morning. Fair bids for "actuals" by consuming interests, well below the market, proved unworkable, whilst speculators were disinclined to operate either way.
Subsequently, however, the market turned steadier mainly on trade-buying, which was Influenced by reports of a settlement of the labour troubles in Detroit, whilst prices registered a slight ad- vance of 1/8 cent for all deliveries. But, later on, the higher price- level attracted speculative" Equidation, which, coming on a somewhat narrow market, caused prices to "decline sharply by 1/4 cent for all deliveries.
Closing tone was easier.
