The market opened 1/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as com- ared with Monday's closing rates.
Reflecting conditions prevailing in London and New York the market, ruled dull and featureless. Whilst some demand for "spot" Rubber was in evidence, speculators preferred to maintain side-line. positions. Overnight cable-reports that a settlement of the Motor- car-labour strike in Detroit was not yet in sight, had an adverse in- Auence upon activity.
In view of these conditions it would appear that the market is in need of some incentive news to put it on a higher level, although the statistical position remains satisfactory despite the fact that the immediate consumption-outlook is somewhat impaired by the sea-" sonal decline in Automobile production in USA.

Despite higher opening brought about by better cables, the early steadiness of the market was not sustained. Later, prices declined on speculative selling and liquidation. Rumours of the export sub-" aldy programme being shelved during the present session of Congress were one disturbing factor, to which the day's decline of prices was attributed.

Trading was dull and Mstless. The market was awaiting some new incentives.
CHICAGO WHEAT
Easier cables and reports of further precipitation restricted trad- ing in yesterday's market. Some scattered quidation and pront- taking caused a slight marking" down of prices.
