featured the FINE RIDING BY MR. C. ENCARNACAO second day of the Whitsun Race Meeting held at Happy Valley on Saturday after having been postponed from Whit Monday. Mr. Encarnacao rode four winners-two of these wins being the one second in direct result of really great riding skill-and eight starts,
The meeting opened to sunny weather but before the tea interval the sky had become overcast, and rain, which had been threatening for some time, fell shortly before the commence-- ment of the last race. Notwithstanding the close atmosphere that prevalled most of the afternoon, however, conditions were pleasant enough for racing for, though the course was on the heavy side it wore very well for the major part of the pro- gramme.
"
Favourites had a great day and riding his usual well-judged race. dividends generally were low, but did it with two lengths to spare.
Mr. H. C. Pth on Moonlight View large crowd present guaranteed satisfactory cash sweeps es com-was content to lie behind for most pensation.
The Daily Double-Some Hope and Rose Queen-paid 80 backers $99.70 each.
While Mr. Encarnacao's sistently brilliant work was questionably the feature of
con-
of the distance but his spurt was a sustained one which carried him four lengths ahead of Bear Claw
Mr. Proulx).
Rob Roy (Mr. Encarriacao) was un- the only other starter. the
day. Mr. V. V. Needs and Mr. H. C Pin also rode very well in at number of events.
།
The former's win on Galaxy in the Beaufort Handicap was in particular, a Ane piece of riding. Mr. Pih had no winner, but rode four seconds mostly on little fancied mounts.
