In sympathy with advices received from London and New York dull conditions continued to prevail throughout the session,

Whilst demand for "actuals" was satisfactory, dealers and specu- lators preferred to remain on side-lines due to overnight cables re- porting on a substantial decrease in Motorcar-production for this week, disappointing Motorcar-sales during April as well as on lower estimates of Crude-Rubber consumption for April in USA. Also. the uncertainties surrounding the fixation of the export-quota for the third quarter of this year had a restraining influence upon ac- tivity.

Closing tone was quiet,

The average forecast of last week's stock of rubber in London. and Liverpool shows a decrease of 1,000 tons.

NEW YORK COTTON

The continued steadiness induced some new speculative buying and initial prices were higher. The advance in prices gathered momentum as short interests covered. There was still no sign of any reaction and the day's high levels were maintained at the close. The 1939 Cotton acreage has been estimated by private organiza- tions at 25.7 million acres.

NEW YORK RUBBER

There was hardly any trading as most operator's preferred sitting on the fence awaiting the outcome of the 'quota' meeting. Automo- $1.80 bile outlook is not so encouraging. Revised estimates of consump- $3,60 tion are around 45,000 tons for April and 83,000 tons for May-June.
