A STARTLING STORY has been received from the special correspondent in Kunming of the "Ta Kung Pao " in regard to the mysterious loss of a quarter of a million dollars in Chinese National currency. which arrived in that town consigned to the Farmers' Bank there from their head. office.
The consignment comprised 518 cases of Chinese currency bank notes. Among these were 51 cases which were stated to contain five-dollar notes.
The cases reached Kunming on April 24 last and on their arrival in the bank it was discovered that One of the cases seemed excep tionally heavy.
On being opened it found to contain a millstone, some human hair and;a book. The total amount of currency missing is stated to be $250,000.
