A THOROUGHLY CONVINCING TEST

One of the most strenuous tests ever devised for motor cycles was successfully concluded Britain recently.

Im

Officials of the Auto-Cycle Union picked two standard Triumph motor cycles, a Speed Twin and a Tiger 100, at random from agents' stocks. The machines

Coventry were taken ・ to

and "without attention of any kind, were then ridden to ‘John O'Groats, back to Land's End and so to Brooklands track, being under A. C. U observation throughout. ...

The road section of about 1900 miles Was completed at B】 average speed of nearly 43`m.p.h.. 'although all 30 m.p.b., limits were carefully observed,

Al Brooklands, equipped with silencers, lighting sets and in full, touring trim, the machines set of for 6 hours at high speeds. Des- pite strong winds, they covered 450 and 471 miles respectively at average speeds of 75 m.p.h. for the Speed Twin and 784 m.p.h, for the Tiger 100. Immediately. after- wards each of them did a further lap of the track at 88 m.ph.

After the Brooklands tests, the machines were ridden, still under. "Observation, to the Triumph fac- tory af Coventry, where the engines were dismantled. In spite of the gruelling nature of the test, there was no trace of wear in any of the working parts. In the words of "The Motor Cycle seldom, it ever, has there been a more aruel- ling and convincing oficial test.
