The market opened 1/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as compared with Saturday's closing rates,

Throughout the session the market ruled featureless. Despite fair demand for "spot" Rubber dealers and speculators were disinclined to operate, preferring to awalt further developments in London and New York,

Liquidation of May positions in New York coupled with the pre- valling political uncertainties in Europe la expected to check any im- mediate advance, unless some good news will offset these unfavour- able factors.

Closing tone was dull.

Silver prices rose 116 yesterday for both deliveries, the quotations being 20 1/16 for Ready and 19 7/8 for Forward." Silver advices re- ported speculators As having operated both ways. The market was steady. American Sliver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.

The London-New York cross-rate was quoted at 408.06. New York- London was quoted at 468 5/18.

Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed a decrease of 1,068 tons for the week ending April. 22. 1939.

NEW YORK COTTON

The market was very active to-day. The lowest levels were the opening prices. Good buying was influenced by Mr. Wallace's cómm- promise plan Prices continued to advance until the closing prices were very nearly the day's highest levels. It is very probable that the market will continue to be good to-morrow.

NEW YORK RUBBER

A weak tone still prevailed in the market, and trading consisted mainly of May liquidation. However, prices recovered slightly from the day's lowest levels towards the close.

CHICAGO WHEAT

The market opened easy with lower initial prices, Trading was "very light and prices moved within narrow limits. The lack of inter- est was caused by favourable weather reports and wear Liverpool cables.
