Rear-Adml. A. J. L. Murray has been appointed to the "newly created post of Bear-Admiral in the Fifth Cruiser Squadron as from 'April 14.

He was in

of the command Signal School at the Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth, from Ab- gust, 1937, until some weeks after his promotion to Dag rank in January of this year. He has commanded the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla and was decorated for ser- vice in North Russia in 1919, when he was wounded.

The Fifth Cruiser Squadron is the nucleus of the British Naval Forces on the China Station, of which Vice-Adml. Sir Percy Noble ls, Commander-in-Chief. Another flag officer is already maintained on the station in the person of Rear-Amtra R V. Holt, who is Senior Officer on the Yangtze.

Rear-Adml Murray's post is an additional one, created with a view to relieving the Commander- In-Chief of some of the growing administrative work. His flag wili doubtless be hoisted in one of the Ave ships comprising the Fifth Cruiser Squadron.
