A DEAD. HEAT IN THE LAST RACE, the Honghom Bay Handicap (second section), between Gladiator (Mr. P. Y. T. Wel) and Avon (Mr. B. L. Tae) wound up a series of good finishes at. the first day of the second extra race meeting at Happy Valley on Saturday.

The course was on the hard and fast side and some good were times were recorded. Amongst the best performances those of Mr. H. C. Plh in winning the first section of the Hong- after running behind hom Bay Handicap on Moonlight View most of the way, and Mr., Feter Wel's riding of Lancashire Chips when it beat Lucky Lad (Mr. Nexda) in the Albury Handicap.

Hearne had the bad luck to be thrown trum of Whalsey at the start of the Talwan Bay Handicap and while on the ground was kicked by the pony, sustaining an injury to his temple which caused slight concussion.
