The strained political situation in Central Europé continues to infu-" ence the market and with the adop- tion of a armer front by the De mocratic Powers both buyers and sellers were inclined to await the trend of events. Towards the end, of the week, however, selling on a that somÜ small scale indicated holders preferred not to retain their commitments over the Easter holidays. The result has been a quiet market with rather lower szall price levels, and only volume of business has been re- corced for the short week.
*Electrics after changing hands at $561 receded to $554. Trams lost 120 cents to $16.30. Hotels improved to $5.70. China Lights (0) remain- ed at $8.40. A fair business has been feported in Govt, 4% Loan at 4% prem with further enquiries at this price. In the Irisurance section. Union were warted at $450 and Cantons at $220.with sales it $222 The Manila market has been un- certain and prices of gold mining stocks are a shade easier at the close although changes have been small. Speculators have shown re- fuctance to increase their commit- The ments over the holidays Manila market is closed from April 6 to 8, inclusive.

The market opened 3/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries "as compared with Tuesday's closing rates.
Quiet and dull conditionis prevailed throughout the day thus re- sponding to advices received from London and New York. The east- ness on the London and New York stock-markets coupled with a re- newal of European political uncertainties was depressing factor and caused dealers and speculators to adopt a hesitant attitude. Also the belief, that the peak of American consumption" has passed „and that the outlook now is less promising. exercised a restraining in- fluence on the market.'
Closing tone was quiet.

The market once more opened very quiet, with price fluctuations extremely narrow. Later, trading was fairly active and values: ad- vanced on an improvement in Wall Street. There was some fres buying and offers were scarce, which further aided the market. There is still no definite news from Washington regarding the Ad- ministration's crop programme. At the close, the undertone was firm, with prices reaching the highs for the session

Early in the day, prices staged a fairly substantial advance on a quiet market. This was in sympathy with the better tone on Wall Street. The steadiness of the London market was also a helpful fac- tor. Prices continued to advance until the closing.
