changed hands in fair quantity at $173/174 cum dividend.

The ninth annual general meet-Docks ing of the Vibro Filing Co., Ltd. was held at the registered office of the company yesterday, when the | Chairman, Mr. S. M. Churn. re- ported a satisfactory year's work- ing. Those present were Mr. J. J. Basto, the Hon. Sir R. H. Kotewall. CM.G. (directors), Mr. F. E. `d'Al- mads Remedios (secretary).

CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH

The chairman said:-By refer- ring to the profit and loss account you will observe that, after mak- ing full provision for depreciation, the net profit for the year amounts to $55.199.14, a result which your board, feels sure all shareholders will agree is highly satisfactory.

Turning to the balance sheet, I do not think that any explanations are required, since the statement has been rendered in "a very un- derstandable form. I would like, however, to comment that of the sum of $37,264.21 shown as net additions to plant and machinery during the year, the bulk of the amount. represents the cost of a further plant which we were for- tunately able to purchase from a neighbouring licencee for work in the Philippines. The cost of this additional equipment. though not new but is in good working con- dition, shows in a very striking way the extent to which the book value of our other two plants and accessories, has been written down. I would like to observe that the

major portion of the item of $61.- | 340.20 shown under sundry debtors and unexpired charges, has since been collected, and there are now sumclent funds to pay the recom- mended dividend and bonus.

DEPARTMENTAL CHANGES During the year the manage- ment of our technical department by Messrs. Marsman Hongkong China Ltd., was terminated by mutual consent, and we have with Manager.us again as technical manager, Mr.

I may also mention that a very old and trusted friend and share Pholder of the company, Mr. H. D. 8. WASHINGTON, Mar. 22 (Reuter)

The George resolution, to pre- vent subsidised cotton exports, is reputed to have wide support in the Senate, and to have a' good chance of pasmgn if it is permitted to come to the vota.

The resolution was introduced under proceedings enabling it to come directly before the Senate without prior committee con- sideration.

Meanwhile, talk of early an- nouncement of a cotton subsidy continues.

It is rumoured that 1,600,000 bales held under the 1934 loan may be offered for export at four cents below the world market; and that $40,000,000 will be made avail- able from customs receipts for subsidy."

DETERMINED OPPOSITION

thus far is Nothing oficial known, but the trade is wondering what if any effect on the subsidy plans the determined Southern developing may opposition now have.

The situation is thus confused. though the Secretary for Agricul- ture. Mr. Henry A. Wallace, told Representatives the House agricultural committee yesterday that the cotton surplus was so large that some necessarily "must be directed towards foreign ` mar- kets.
