(By "TAC")"

OF THE CURRENT THE FIRST BIG UPSET TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND ONE OF THE BIG- GEST IN RECENT YEARS, occurred in the Open Doubles match at the Hongkong Cricket Club ground yesterday when," meeting" in the first round,, W. C.. Hung and E. C: Fincher, runners-up for the doubles title in 1936 and 1937, were put out by J. J. Remedios and A. Y. Gosano In the first round.

The match, which attracted a large gallery, and which did not finish till nearly 6.30, was the most thrilling in the tournament to date. At one time it looked as if the upset would take the form of a com- plete rout, for, having won the opening set at 6-4, without very much effort, Remedios and Gosano were leading 4-1 and 40-15 in the second.
