The new vessel, which is a sister to the Prince of Wales, laid down on the same date at the yard of Messrs. Cammell Laird, Birken- head, is the first new battleship to be launched since the Nelson and Rodney took the water in 1925.

With the Duke of York, Jellicoe, and Beatty. laid down between May and July, 1937, the King George V. and Prince of Wales are to receive primary armaments of 14 in. guns.

No further offelel details have been released in this country. though unofficial, reports credit them with ten of these weapons, mounted in two four-gun turrets forward, with a twin turret aft. Elaborately sub-divided and arm- oured against all forms of attack, they will be driven by " Parsons gcared turbines at designed speeds, which are believed to be about thirty knots. The first two of these ships should be completed next year, and the remaining three during 1941.

Two other battleships, the Lion and Temeraire, were authorised in last year's programme, though the contracts have not yet been placed.
