Silver prices rose yesterday to the extent of 3/16 for Ready and 1/18 for Forward, the quotations being 20 9/18 and 19 13/16 respec- tively. Silver advices reported In- dia as having bought. There were some bear covering. The market was steady. American Blver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.

The London-New York cross- rate was quoted at 468.61. New York-London was quoted at 468.

The market opened with prices unchanged for all deliveries as compared with Monday's closing rates.

Barly in the morning the market ruled quiet, but steady, thus responding to conditions prevailing in London and New York..

Whfist demand for "actual" was fair, speculators were inclined to take profits, which was well absorbed by dealers.

Subsequently, however, prices declined by 1/8 cent for all de- liveries due to persistent further speculative liquidation. The mar- ket recovered this slight set-back towards the close of the session.. closing with a steady undertone.

Market steadier on Continental demand for C.IF and better American inquiry.

Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed a decrease, of 1,003 tons for the the week ending February 27, 1939.

NEW YORK COTTON

The market opened steady, with prices slightly higher than the previous day's close. Later, strength developed on better advices from Liverpool. Prices closed strong on general buying and short coverings together with favourable conditions in the dry-goods trade.

NEW YORK RUBBER After a lower opening, owing to lack of buying incentive, the market turned strong. Near positions were particularly arm buying by consumers and speculators. The bullishness of the statistical position and the general belief that the trend is harden- ing caused a firm ciceing.

. Prices were somewhat easier on favourable weather conditions and continued weakness abroad. The market, however, appeared to 66% be slightly steadier at the close.
