ELIMINATE ILLITERACY

WUCHOW, Feb 28 (Central)-A gigantle campaign to rid Kwangst province of its remnant illiterates will. shortly be launched by the Kwings Provincial Government. More than 6,000 teachers through- out the province will be mobilized and about $1,000,000 will be appro- pilated for this task. -

All adults, between the ages of 18 and 45 who have not received schooling, will undergo compulsory educational training. Books will be given to them gratis but they will have to provide their own papers and writing implements.

The Provincial Government has despatchea omcials to various districts in the province to make an investigation of the number of

literates and to confer with local authorities regarding the spread of this campaign.

TEA QUOTA MAY

BE REDUCED

LONDON, Feb. 27 (Reuter)-The

International Tea Committee will meet in London on March 2. The question of whether the quota for the next regulation year will be left unchanged or reduced by 21 to $7 per cent, remains very open. The increase in the United King dom stocks by 25,000,000 lbs. be- tween January 1938 and last month is smaller than was gener- ally expected and the present stock position does not suggest any immediate necessity for reducing the quota.

On the other hand the prices at London auctions In 1938 averaged 14.38 pence compared with 15.18 during 1937 and cannot be regard- ed as wholly satisfactory from the point of view of producers
