Some short covering towards the close imparted a steady tone. It is reported that the Secretary of Agriculture is in favour of the Smith Bill for the release of Loan cot-

Values advanced early in the session on fair demand from fac- tories. Later, the market further strengthened on, better London cables. There was considerable covering by short interests, whilst activity increased on the upside.
