ROSE ELECT'S AMAZING TRAINING MILE GALLOP

All Valley Performances For Many Years Beaten

(By "Last Quarter")

ALL TRAINING, PERFORMANCES OF THIS SEA- SON AS WELL AS THOSE OF PAST YEARS, was entirely eclipsed Last Sunday morning when Rose Elect, the Eu Tong Sen hope for the 1939 Hongkong Derby, with Mr. Charlie Encarnacao in the saddle, was sent out on a trial mile gallop and covered the distance in the excellent time of 1:56-3/5. Rall fans were surpri- sed at the fast time returned and while some contend- ed that the mare finished a shade tired, the perform- ance must still be ranked as outstanding due to the fact that the pony was untouched throughout and no effort made to push her over the last quarter.

As far as memory serves me, and that goes back- over quite a long period; no China pony griffin or even an old racer, has galloped the mile on the sand track inside two minutes, and when one considers that the actual racing record for the distance is 1:55, the 'try- out appears all the more remarkable. The result has been a precipitable strengthening of Rose Elect's chances for the Blue Riband and I shall indeed be surprised if she does not go to the post a strong fav- ourite, and a very worthy one at that.

Since my last article, the pony that has improved most and seems to be getting right| into racing condition, in my jopinion, is the Sassoon 'can- Badges admitting non-members didate, Eve of Harvest.
