NEW YORK COTTON

Early in the day. the market was quiet, with most operators keeping to side-lines. Lower Bombay and Liverpool cables, com- bined with some liquidation, induced lower values at the opening. whlist the general apathy, on the part of traders had a depressing effect. Later, a rally "set in, with the earlier losses partially re- gained.

NEW YORK RUBBER..

After opening lower, values moved up under good new buying. Influenced by constructive implications of the International Rubber Restriction Committee's decision to leave the quota unchanged for the second-quarter this year. The steadiness of the London mar- ket was also a contributory factor to the rise.

CHICAGO WHEAT

A quiet and uninteresting market. There was little in the news to affect prices either way, with the result that fluctuations were confined to a very narrow range. Lower Overseas cables brought about a slight contraction of the initial quotations, but the later firmness of the Winnipeg market induced some short covering.

The market opened if cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Tuesday's closing, rates. -

The market ruled very steady throughout the session, thus re- sponding to the better sentiment displayed in London and New York due to the IR.R. Committee having fixed the permissible ex- port-quota for the April-June quarter at 50 per cent, unchanged from the first quarter.

After a considerable volume, of business having been transacted on basis of quoted ratés, „prices moved higher by 1/8 cent for all deliveries due to persistent further buying caused by the general ex- pectation of higher markets in future.
