SNATCHING CASE

In the Court of Appeal yea- terday, the Chief Justice, Sir Atholl MacGregor, allowed the appeal brought by Wong Sze- nang against conviction on a charge of matching a sum of $500 from an Indian prison warder, Lal Khan, at Bonham Strand East on January 4, and the fine of $250 with the alter- native of three months' impri sonment imposed by the Magis- trale. Mr. T. I. Houston. Appellant was represented by Mr. M. A. da Silva, while Mr. J. B. Prentls, Assistant Crown Sollettor. was for the Crown.

Mr: Silva sald that all the evi, dence that was before the Magis- trate was hearsay evidence, and was not aphissable. There was an Indian watchman on duty outside the money-changer's shop and a policeman ch traffic duty about 30 yards away, and it was important that no evidence had been brought to support the Crown's case that there had been a chase for about 460 yards, in as much as the com- plainant had stated that he had shouted in both Punjabi and Chi- nese that money had been snatch=' ea from his person
