It is interesting to recall that the first naval vessels to navigate the upper Yangtze were the Bri- tish river gunboats "Woodcock") and "Woodlark." bullt by the same; firm in 1898-forerunners, of the type of which the "Grasshopper" is the latest example.
Until recently it was the practice to send these gunboats out In sections to be re-erected on the river. The "Grasshopper" and "Dragonfly." however, will be completed at the Southampton yard and will steam out to their destination. This is rendered pos- sible by their increased size and draft over the original type and because, though built of light scantlings, they are in reality, very
strong.

New Development In Fishery Wrangle
TOKYO, Feb. 8 (T/Ocean)— A joint resolution submitted to the Japanese Government by the parties represented in the Imperial Diet appeals to the Government to safeguard, under all circumstances, the Japanese fishery rights in So- viet Russian territorial, waters in the Far East.
It will be recalled that the negotiations between Japan and the Soviet Union regarding a pro- longation of the Fishery Conven- tion failed and that the Soviet Union subsequently announced that it would sell the fishery rights to the highest bidder at the public auction on March 15.
