In response to advices received from London and New York the market opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Thursday's closing quotations,

Throughout the session the market displayed a steady under- tone. A far demand for "actuals" was in evidence, whilst there was also good buying interest in futures for trade and speculative accounts.

Later in the session prices advanced by 1/8 cent on persistent further buying which consisted partly of shortcovering.

Closing tone was stendy.

It would appear that the better sentiment was caused by re- laration of the European political tensión as well as by a general expectation that the IR.R. Committee, at their next meeting on 14th inst., may decide on leaving the present permissible export quota unchanged for the second quarter of this year.
