The market opened 1/4 of à cent lower for all deliveries as còm- pared with Saturday's closing quotations,
Early in the morning the market ruled dall with a moderate de- mand for "spot" Rubber, whilst dealers and speculators displayed only little buying interest in futures.
Later in the session, however, steadier conditions prevailed due to fair enquiries which were chiefly attributed to trade necounts, result- ing in a slight price-advance of 1/3 cent.
After business having been transacted on basis of the higher level.. the market again relapsed into dullness, closing with a quiet under- tone.
London Rubber circles anticipate higher markets during 1939, bas ing their expectations on an average monthly consumption of 50,000 tons in U.8.A. It is also believed that 'Motorcar production in USA. will reach about 3.5 million units during this year, whilst it is assumed that Tire-sales will increase by at least 15 per cent, over the figure for last year. It is also expected, that sellers will show more reserve in their future offerings, thus assisting in attaining a price-level of gd. per lb. for "spot" Rubber, which is considered to be adequate for pro- ducers and consumers alike. The foregoing assumptions are, of course. based on business activities in U.S.A. being maintained at the present level.
