Chungking. December 28. SINCE THE SINO-JAPANESE' hostilities began, the Ministry of Communications, with the collaboratoin of the provincial gov ernments, has built many new highways in the southwest and north- west. Approximately 3.224 kilometres of new roads were completed by the summer.

Of these, the most important is the 850-kilometre Yunnan-Borma Road from Kunming to. the border of British Burma. This road. built entirely by manual labour, was completed in six months. Con- sidering the difficult terrain it traverses, it is a remarkable feat on the part of the Chinese engineers and workers.
