From Ross Bros. Silver prices rose 3/18 yesterday for both deliveries, the quotations being 20 1/4 for Ready and 18 5/8 for Forward. Silver advices report- ed speculators us having bought. Sellers were reserved. The market was quietly steady. American Silver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.

CONTRACT

A Scottish steal firm has beaten SILVER MARKETS

German rivals for a share of £500,000 order for South Africa,

Messrs Stewarts and Lloyds. Ltd.. who have works at Tollerass and Rutherglen, will share the order placed by the .alty of Port Eliza- beth, South Africa, for 77 miles of large diameter steel pipes.

The contract has been placed. jointly with Messrs Stewarts and and the South Durham Lloyds Steel and Iron Company, Ltd.

The pipes will be used for the longest water supply pipe line In South Africa.

The market early advanced on higher. Liverpool prices, covering by 'shorts, and scattered, locsi and foreign buying. Later, prices moderately declined on liquidation, and hedge-selling, and the mar- ket finally closed steady on some trade buying.
