116 for forward, the quotations being 30 1 16 and 19 1:2 respec- tively. Silver advices reported the market as being steady. Specula- tors and the Continent bought to a small extent. Buyers were Batis fled, American Silver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.

The London-New York cross-rate was quoted at 488.93. New York London was quoted at 460.15/16.

The average forecast of last week's stocks of rubber in London and in Liverpool shows a decrease of 1,400 tons.

NEW YORK COTTON

Favourable Liverpool advices induenced a higher opening in the Cotton market to-day, which later, was further strengthened by local and Bombay, buying. Finally, the market closed steady.

NEW YORK RUBBER

The market ruled steady but relatively idle, owing to lack of in- centives and support. Prices were narrow and trading was somewhat uninteresting.

The market opened 1/8 of a cent higer for all deliveries as com- pared with Friday's closing quotations.

Throughout the session the market ruled steady, thus responding to Improved conditions prevailing in London and New York. Good equiries for "spot" Rubber Influenced fair buying interest in Tutures by dealers and speculators Reports from U.S.A. on continued satis- factory progress in Motorcar-production coupled with estimates of in- creased Rubber-consumption for November-December

bullish factors. However, the unsettled situation with regard to Sterling is still exercising a restraining fluence upon the market.
