In sympathy with better advices received from London and New York the market ruled stendy throughout the day. There was good de- mand for "actuals," reported to be for Japanese Interests, and whilat dealers displayed more huying interest in futures, there was little ac- tivity by speculators.

A fair volume of business was transacted on basis of quoted rates. Closing tone was quiet, but steady.

The market was quiet under the uncertainties of the action of Sterling, which create hesitancy, but the underlying sentiment is con- structive in view of the expectations that November consumption will be the besylest since September, 1937. The action of the Stock Market was a depressing factor.
