McNeil by no means extended himself yet he was able to do as he liked. Taul put up a surprising-
ly poor display for it cannot be raid that he was over-awed by the perasion, the local man having had experience in Arst-class ten- nis. He played in the Davis Cup for China a' couple of years ago and was also member of the Chinese Olymple team at the Ber- in Games.
ร
I was very surprised to find that McNeill, like the rest of the visit- ing players who were on view, was rather weak with his overhead shots.
As a general rule the Ameri- cans are very strong in this. department of the game but these four appear to be excep- tions.
McNell was very good with his ground shots, his backhand. which" h sometimes executed with both hands gripping the racket, being particularly sound..
After the singles the Tsui ur one set against Charles Harris and thers, doubles champions, played
Owen Anderson. The visitors won by six games to three.
In the fifth game Anderson let loose with two cannon ball services, I never saw the local players so helpless and. I felt then that if they had remained at the back of the court, some yards away from the baseline, it would have been much better for them.
Other scores were as follows:-

SPORTS FLASHES
JERRY GOSANO, the La Salle
College cricketer, is also quite an expert at softball. This game Is catching on very rapidly amongst the school boys in the Colony and there is some talk about a schools league being start- ed.

IS UNDERSTOOD the boxing classes in Queen's College have been summed and that there is. some very promising material on view. About ten years ago the. annual boxing tournament at Queen's attracted a "good deal of interes: Mr. John C. Fletcher was toxing master then with "Kid" Marriott the instructor.
THE SUBSCRIPTION GRIFFINS
which arrived in the Colony a few days ago are a very promising looking lot of animals. Many of them already have the appearance of champions and everybody con cerned is quite looking forward to the draw.
NEWS HAS BEEN RECEIVED in
the Colony that "Battling” Rio, the local boxer, is doing quite well ta Singapore and is figuring re- gularly in their boxing cards. "Rio" was regarded as a coming man a couple of years ago and it was generally felt that given more ex- perience he would go a long way.
OCAL TENNIS STARS have already started practicing for the annual tennis championships .tun
under the auspices of the Fongkong Cricket Club about February-March each year"
The Chinese Recreation Club courts are used every day by some of the younger blood, a number of whom are expected to make their debut next year.
TONGKONG WAS SHOWN how softball should be played by the American Girls who gave an exhibition here on Wednesday. The crowd was most unsporting in their persistence in encroaching on the field but the players took it all in good part.
