Bales were made by speculators, American Trade bought. Later the market was arm with India and American Trade as buyers at 1/18 over the quoted rate. The New York mar- ket was closed yesterday

The London New York cross- rate was lowered to 484.87.

Buyers were not lacking at prices which they considered reasonable but with very Utile response from sellers Towards the cloes, how- ever, when prices were marked down in some cases, business was facilitated to a slight extent, and the market closed with a fairly steady undertone.
