DEANNA DURBIN GROWS UP IN NEW PICTURE
Natural Screen Actress
וז'י
And Excellent Singer
on
The newest Deanna Durbin picture has just been previewed, and the studio 'seems to have been successful in its etioris to present her once more as a very young girl. This sort of thing can't go forever, of course, as even the studio knows. Deainas next picture is to be called, äppropriately, "Three Smart Girls Grow Up." The studio in this respect seems as smart, to at least one observer, as its three heroines, says a Holywood commentator.
The

ingly charming vakce, she added self as delightfully vivacious as any the screen has ever presented. Much credit is due Director Henry Koster, who first directed Miss Durbin's pictures: but still "more is probably due Producer Joe Pasternak, who has used Thre taste in selecting stories for her, matching the subjects to Deanna's own development.
This is especially true of the last picture. Just previewed, in which Deanna essays the difficult transi- tion period between young girlhood and very young womanhood. Pas- ternak early made a friend of the little player, and even now AL- tempts, nothing with her to which he does not first secure her com- plete compliance.
What will in future happen to Miss Durbin's voice is of course not to be speculated on here, Ask ber if she intends to take it on into opera, and she'll reply, "Well, naturally." But press her further about the Metropolitan, and she'll merely smile and tell you that any mention of that probably ought to come first from the Metropolitan. not from her.
