Cable Employees Show Gratitude
For several year, captains of liners to Australia have brought their vessels within ́s mile of isolated Cocos Islands, " halfway between Ceylon and Australia, in the Indian
Ocean.
They drop overboard a cask con- taining fresh meat, butter, cheese.. sweets, cigarettes and newspapers, the cask being destined for eight Cable and Wireless employees who man a cable station on the island and are otherwise. visited only three times a year by ship from Singapore.
Last Tuesday at Electra House, London, the Cocos Cable Staff showed their gratitude when Mr. Edward Wilshaw, J.P., Chairman of the Company, presented a silver salver on their behalf to Captain' L.V." James of the Orient Miner Otranto, in recognition of bds chivalrous gesture of the sea.
