Frices early advanced on heavy speculative buying, covering by shorts and foreign buying together with the strength of Wall Street. Sentiment was buoyant, with the market also aided by the strength of other commodities. Later, prices partially eased on lower Liver- pool cable and profit-taking, but again finally rallied on renewed foreign and speculative buying and the märket closed firm.
