Dr. E. Reifler's Address To

Arts Association

Illustrating a new approach to the Chinese language. Dr. Erwin Reifler, Professor of Chinatung. University, formerly of Shanghai, spoke on the points of similarity between the Chinese language and foreign languages: before the Arts Association of the Hongkong University last night.

After replying to the statements of European savants concern. ing the difficulty of reconciling the spoken and written Chinese, Dr. Reifler said that in Chinese Writing” many expressions, which are called words, are represented by two or more syllables.
