CAUSE

All who have passed by the Peninsula flotel during the past week have noticed the erection of elaborate bamboo. structures on the ground ad- joining it on Nathan Road. This is in preparation for the Annual Bazaar in aid of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which will be held there to- morrow from 3 to 11 p.m.

This is the 55th annual bazaar organized by the Society, and every effort has been made to make It the best of the series.

The great increase of poverty in the city, as a result of the crowded ctate of the poorer quarters, has led to a greatly increased number of call for assistance from the Society, and it is hoped that as a result of to-morrow's Fete it will be in a position to distribute help with greater liberality than before.

The unique character of the work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul consists. In the fact that all the assistance which it gives to the poor is distributed in their own homes, and all by voluntary workers. This ensures that help is givea to those who need it most and that practically, all adminis- tritive expenses are eliminated.

MOST DESERVING Those who contribute to the Lunds of the Society have therefore the assurance that everything which they give goes directly to the most deserving of the poor. »No consideration of race or creed Is taken into account, and the fact that the Society has had the con- Adence of people of all classes during the 75 years of its existence in Hongkong is a proof that its work is well done.

To-morrow's bazaar has attrac- tions to suit all. There is a great variety of games akJII, for which prizes will be given very liberally.' Visitors will find that they can en- joy themselves in the grounds without being annoyed by excessive importunity.

His Excellency the Governor and Lady Northcote will attend for "the opening ceremony st 3 o'clock. Admission tickets. which cost only 19 cents, en- title holders to participate in a draw for an 'all-wave wireless SEL.

In connection with the Fete, Rev. Fr. Gallagher gave a broadcast talk over Z.B.W. last night on the work of the Society.
