THE CONDUCTOR

The choir has Mr. Alfred E. 8. Hata for its conductor. He studied in the Central China University i Wachang and later the National Conservatory of Music in Shang-

hal. One of the best and most talented of China's choir masters and orchestra conductors. Mr Hsia is also noted as a trumpet player and a composer. His works that have been sung by the Wuhan Songsters and other patriotic choir in China include "The Lone Bat- talion," "Final Victory Win Be Ours," "Song of the Air Force" and "Ladies' War Song."

Most popular among the Wuhan Songsters' repertoire of thirty patriotic songs-are "Song of the Great Wall," "Blood Over the Yel- low River" and "Our Flag Is Waving." The Arst one describest China's Great Wall and beyond it the mountains clad with trees and plains overgrown with crops where thousands

upon thousands of peace-loving Chinese had their happy homes. The tunes are full of pathos as these citizens of China bewall the loss of their lands and their homes, and of herola as they swear to fight and drive out the invaders
