!

In sympathy with conditions prevailing both in London and New York the market displayed a steady undertone throughout the day.

Good enquiries for "actuals" were responsible for active interest in forward positions being shown by dealers and speculators.

After some business having been transacted on basis of quoted rates prices advanced by 1/8 cent for all deliveries, the marke clos- ing with a steady undertone at the higher price-level.

In London the opinion prevalls that no further release for the first quarter of 1939 may be expected due to the automatic increase of the basle quota for next year, whilst the consumption-outlook in USA. is too uncertain to allow of any accurate estimate for the pre- sent quarter, although it is assumed that absorption would amount to In the meantime the about 120.000 tons for October-December 1938, market continues to rule very idle in the absence of buying-interest by manufacturers to any larger extent. In view of this fact only minor price-fluctuations may be expected until after the IRR Com- mittee's meeting on November 15, 1938, when, it is expected, an an- nouncement of the permissible export-quota for January-March 1939 will be made.
