wenk but The market opened firmed up later as speculators en-- deavoured to take advantage of the prevailing low prices. Move- tuents, owing to the quiet char- acteristics of the buying, were not sharp, but in many instances the

appreciable al- gains were though losses have not been fully recovered. Towards the close of business, however, profit taking was encountered resulting in an easter undertone and some recession in prices.

Overshadowed by the Japanese threat to Canton business, already very restricted, showed a tendency to fall off still further, resulting in a dull and ltless market. in Business Hongkong Bank shares was reported down to $1950, but with the recovery of the Lon- don market shares were wanted at 37400 with sales at $1405 and $1410. Hotels after changing handa at $8.30 recovered to $6.70. Elec- trics advanced from $571 to $58. to recovered from $18 Trams $18.70 with shares offering at the latter figure. Wharves were want- ed at $121 and Lands at $36). Pro- at vidents (0) changed hands $8.40. Dairy Farms at $25 and Cements at $164. China Lights (0) were

wanted at $10.40 with sales reported up to $ID.70. Hong- kong Govt. 4 per cent Loan changed hands at 6 per cent premium while the 34 per cent.. Loan was wanted at par with sales reported at 1 per cent. Gold Mining stocks have been steady and prices have shown slight improvement during have Mauricio the week. San again been outstanding with an advance of 13 ctve to 91 ctvs. An- tamoks advanced 5 ctvs to 411 ctvs. This section of the market closed with a steady undertone.

Trading to-day was moderately active. The Trade was trans- ferring accounts from neam to distants, especially by Bombay inter- of differences. esta. The market is realsting further, narrowing whilst liquidation of 'December cotton was less active. There was a good Trade demand for October cotton, whilst hedge selling was only moderate. The market closed steady on new buying following the strength of securities.
