SUPPLIES

Establishment Of

A Plant

Kweiyang. Oct: 8.

A plant for the manufacture of medical supplies will be established here with Mr. Yao Keh-fang, a well known chemist, as director.

At a start the plant will turn out bandages, gauze and medicine to cure opium smokers. In the second stage, ordinary medicine will be manufactured, and finally all drugs for injection and emergency cases will also be produced.

The initial plan is to turn out sufficient products for provincial use, and later on supplies will be available for national consumption. At present all medical supplies are mostly imported from the United States. Germany and Britain International

Oct. 8 buyers' sellers 28-7/8-20-1/8 29-3/8 29-5/8 29-5/8 29-7/B off 1/8

The market opened with prices unchanged for all deliveries as compared with Friday's closing rates.

Throughout the session the market ruled quiet, but steady, thus responding to the conditions prevailing in London and New York. Demand for "spot" Rubber was fair, whilst dealers and speculators displayed little interest to operate, preferring to awali further de-. velopments. Only a moderate volume of business was transacted on basis of quoted rates. The market closed with a quiet undertone.

With quotas having been fixed for the four quarters of this year nt 70 per cent, 60 per cent. 45 per cent and 45 per cent respectively it is Yelt that considerable additional statistical improvement will be accomplished by the end of this year. It may also be safely as- sumed that American consumption during the remaining months of this year will show a substantial increase, thus assuring higher price- levels to revail, unless the market should be affected by some un- foreseen outside influences..

Anticipation of a bearish Bureau report caused an early decline and prices further receded on lower Liverpool advices, prett-taking and realising. Later, the market partially rallied on covering and on higher Bombay advices, but prices finally again weakened on re- newed liquidation and on foreign and New Orleans selling.

NEW YORK RUBBER

The market was greatly encouraged by the active state of trading" on Wall Street and general favourable business prospects. Prices, firmed on active foreign and commission-house demand which ab- sorbed dealer offerings. London interests were the principal pur- chasers.
